Pre-Show Lectures

Great theatre inspires dynamic conversation, and Rep Stage has several programming opportunities for our patrons to be a part of these conversations. For our Pre-Show Lectures we host experts in their fields whose work has a connection to the themes and content of each play.

Pre-Show lectures occur on the final Saturday of each production’s run, directly before the 2:00 PM matinee. These lectures are free of charge and need no reservations or tickets.

Nina's summary of the plot of La Bohème and the fate of Mimi is so far off base that we have to entertain the possibility that she isn't a singer at all. However, the gap between what real-life opera fans think the opera is about and Puccini's intentions is so huge that in a way, we're all Ninas. For many opera fans, if they knew the real Puccini, nobody would go near his shows.
